Supervising Electrician

Salary - Negotiable based on experience 

Supervision & Leadership

  • Supervise electrical contractors and in-house maintenance staff.
  • Act as the competent person for electrical safety on site.
  • Provide guidance and support to the wider facilities team.
  • Ensure minimal disruption to residents during works, maintaining a calm and safe environment.

Installation & Projects

  • Undertake electrical installations, upgrades, and refurbishment works.
  • Support project delivery including lighting upgrades, energy efficiency improvements, and system enhancements.
  • Ensure all installations comply with relevant UK legislation and best practice.

Electrical Maintenance & Compliance

  • Support planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs on all electrical systems.
  • Ensure compliance with current regulations including BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations.
  • Oversee and support periodic inspection and testing (EICR).
  • Maintain accurate records of all electrical works, inspections, and certifications.
  • Ensure all works meet health and safety standards, including risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).

Health & Safety

  • Adhere to all health and safety policies, with particular sensitivity to vulnerable residents.
  • Ensure safe isolation procedures are always followed.
  • Support fire safety systems maintenance (e.g. emergency lighting, alarms interface).

Qualifications & Experience Required

Essential Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent (e.g. City & Guilds 2365 / 2357).
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (City & Guilds 2382).
  • City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing) or equivalent.
  • Proven experience working as a qualified electrician in a commercial or healthcare setting.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in care homes, healthcare, or regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • Familiarity with Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
  • Additional training in fire alarm systems, emergency lighting, or PAT testing.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong technical knowledge of electrical systems and fault finding.
  • Ability to work independently and supervise others effectively.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to compliance.
  • Good communication skills, particularly in a sensitive care environment.
  • Organised, reliable, and proactive approach.

Other Requirements

  • Enhanced DBS check (required for working in a care home environment).
  • Full UK driving licence (if travel between sites is required).
  • Flexibility to respond to emergency call-outs if needed.
